OFSTED visits Bootstrap to research best practice

OFSTED inspectors are currently meeting with the best Workstep providers in the country, as identified by current inspection gradings. OFSTED`s aim in 2009 is to compile a report on the strategies and practices being used by the most successful Workstep providers to move adults with significant physical, mental and personal barriers into sustainable jobs.

The visit to Bootstrap included discussions with managers, staff, employers and participants, examination of a range of key documents and processes, and observation of a client session. The resulting assessment of Bootstrap`s delivery of Workstep, which will be included in the report later in the year, identified:

· very good development of personal, social and employability skills

· very effective review and development planning

· very good matching of participants to jobs

· good operational management

· very effective management of change

· good employer engagement

· good staff development

· good quality improvement arrangements for monitoring of subcontractors

· very effective strategies to support inclusion and widen participation

· Excellent bespoke packages of support for both clients and employers

OFSTED`s final survey report will list the names of the contributing organisations, and specific examples of best practice will be identified in the main text.
