Invest to Change programme.

Bootstrap and the Lifelong Learning Section of the Borough Council have secured funding from the Learning and Skills Council under its 2008-9 Invest to Change programme.

The project`s strategy has three elements:

1. Steps into work Including: • Outreach, engagement and marketing to promote employment as an achievable option for people with learning difficulties and disabilities; • the identification and provision of supported tasters, work shadowing opportunities and voluntary employment opportunities to learners referred to Bootstrap from learning provision run by the Council`s Neighbourhoods and Learning service. • The marketing of the newly established Access Technology Centre to help service users explore the range of technologies available to help them in work scenarios.

2. Partnership pathways A programme of work to add value to existing and growing activity across the borough by prioritising the consistency of current referral processes between Partnership Board members, and enabling clear sign-posting for learners, their carers and families.

3. Employer Engagement Invest to Change funding for 2007-08 enabled us develop a public sector route into employment through the Council’s in-house Employment Agency. The new funding enables us to develop this work further, and to explore routes into employment across the wider public sector for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
